Timely baskets from Justin Lozano in the closing minutes powered the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers to a 73-60 victory over the Letran Knights on Friday at the FilOil Arena in San Juan.
Lozano finished with 17 points, steering the Heavy Bombers to a win in their opening game of the NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball tournament.
His three free throws in the final 13 seconds sealed the deal for JRU, enabling the Heavy Bombers to join the San Beda Red Lions at the top of the early Group B standings.
“Lagi ko ring sinasabi sa kanila na ibigay nila lahat kasi noon pa lang, nobody was expecting kung anong magiging performance namin,” said debuting coach Nani Epondulan.
For Letran, Jimboy Estrada delivered 14 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
