Tropical cyclone ‘Paolo’ officially transformed into a typhoon and made a landfall over Dinapigue, Isabela, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Friday morning.
PAGASA said the typhoon landed at 9:00 a.m. with tropical cyclone wind signal no. 4 raised over portions of Isabela, Quirino, and other parts of Northern Luzon. ‘Paolo’ was last tracked in the vicinity of Mayoyao, Ifugao based on the updated 2:00 p.m. weather bulletin.
The tropical cyclone was moving northwestward at 30 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 200 kph. All affected communities are advised to keep monitoring updates and exercise caution amid the threats of this latest typhoon.
Consistent with its earlier forecast, PAGASA said ‘Paolo’ weakened while traversing the mountainous areas of Northern Luzon. “Based on the intensity forecast, re-intensification is highly likely once ‘Paolo’ emerges over the West Philippine Sea,” it added.
