Michael Odylon Romero, a former House Deputy Speaker and prominent businessman, has been promoted to full colonel in the Philippine Air Force Reserve.
Romero was among the military and reservist leaders whose promotions were recognized by the Commission on Appointments (CA).
A three-term party-list representative, Romero is chairman of the Association of Reservist and Reservist Administrators of the Philippines. He has been a driving force in strengthening the reservist corps as a strategic component of national defence.
Outside of his military service, Romero is a leading businessman and sportsman. He has chaired professional sports leagues, supported national athletes, and funded grassroots programs. While in Congress, he helped push for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Modernization Program and backed key air mobility acquisitions, including the procurement of three C-130J aircraft.
The CA confirmed the promotion of 39 senior officers of the AFP, led by Lt. Gen. Rey Alemania, Maj. Gen. Loreto Pasamonte, Maj. Gen. Christopher Tampus, and Romero.
The newly promoted officers, which include two major generals, two rear admirals, 23 brigadier generals, six commodores, and six colonels, were conferred their new ranks during the CA session presided over by CA chairman and Senate President Tito Sotto.
Alemania heads the AFP Joint Sustainment Command and previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, J4. Pasamonte was the 2025 recipient of the Golden Aviator Award for Command and Leadership. Tampus is the assistant division commander of the 11th Infantry (Alakdan) Division.
The promotion of both active and reserve officers underscores the AFP’s continued effort to cultivate leadership depth and strengthen its defense posture across all service components.
