Western Union on Wednesday announced the launch of a new mobile app in the Philippines, marking the first global market for the app which can facilitate both sending and requesting money transactions.
The company said the app gives millions of Filipino consumers the capability to send funds abroad and request remittances in a more convenient and flexible way.
The new app allows consumers to send funds securely using QR Ph and complete transactions online. Receivers have multiple options to access their funds, including cash withdrawal at a retail location, bank account deposit and direct digital wallet deposit, depending on the market.
Consumers using the app can request funds from senders in the United States, Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom and several others with large Filipino markets.
“Today’s launch marks an important milestone in our effort to serve consumers in the Philippines better and connect them to their families and loved ones across the world,” said vice president for the Philippines, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands at Western Union Gregory Laurent.
“For many in the country, remittances represent a life with more opportunity and hope. At the same time, an increasing number of Filipinos opt to send funds abroad. Our new app gives the opportunity to do both, with the flexibility and trust that Western Union can provide,” said Laurent.
