The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday announced that the low pressure area (LPA) east of southern Luzon has developed into Tropical Depression “Paolo.”
This marks the country’s 16th tropical cyclone this year, as well as its first in October.
According to the state weather bureau’s 11 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, Paolo’s center was last estimated 760 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.
It was moving westward at 25 kilometers per hour (kph), with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gusts of up to 55 kph.
The tropical depression is predicted to move generally west-northwestward for the entire forecast period. It could make landfall over Isabela or northern Aurora on Friday morning or afternoon.
‘Paolo’ will continue to intensify over the Philippine Sea, possibly reaching severe tropical storm category by Friday morning, with possible further intensification into a typhoon before making landfall.
