Shell Mekaniko League elevates Filipino mechanics to national spotlight

Shell Pilipinas Corporation has officially wrapped up the Shell Mekaniko League 2025 with a grand celebration at Le Pavillon in Pasay City—cementing its place as the country’s largest and most inclusive mechanic competition. For the first time in Philippine history, both car and motorcycle mechanics shared one national stage, showcasing the grit, talent, and craftsmanship of more than 2,000 participants from 26 provinces.

From its kickoff in March to the climactic Grand Finale, the League swept nationwide with 20 Shell Advance Masters regional runs for motorcycle mechanics and six Shell Helix Auto Mekaniko Champions runs for car experts. Along the way, participants didn’t just compete—they trained. Each leg featured Shell-led workshops and TESDA-certified modules designed to prepare mechanics for NC I and NC II certifications, upgrading their skills and strengthening their career opportunities.

The competition was as intense as it was inspiring. Semi-finalists were tested through written exams, parts identification, and hands-on repair challenges that mirrored real-world shop floors. Winners earned ₱50,000 each and a chance to battle for national glory at the Grand Finale.

In a nail-biting showdown of speed, precision, and passion, two mechanics rose to the top:

  • Mark Anthony Calimag of Quezon City, crowned 2025 National Champion of the Shell Helix Auto Mekaniko Champions.
  • Charlie Sandoval of Caloocan City, victorious as 2025 National Champion of the Shell Advance Masters.

Both champions took home ₱200,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Malaysia to witness the MotoGP, alongside their fellow finalists. The Top 5 car mechanics and Top 3 motorcycle mechanics also earned this global learning opportunity, a testament to Shell’s commitment to nurturing Filipino talent on the world stage.

For Sandoval, the triumph capped a stellar run, standing at the podium’s peak with Norman Cabal (2nd place), Joefel Foronda (3rd), Joevanne Sayat (4th), and Allen Kenneth Rañon (5th), all proving why Filipino motorcycle mechanics are among the best in the region.

What began in 2024 with just five regional runs has now evolved into a nationwide movement, redefining the role of mechanics in society—not only as vehicle experts but as key players in community safety and progress.

“The Mekaniko League is one of Shell Pilipinas’ key programs that highlights the skills and dedication of Filipino mechanics,” said Jackie Famorca, Vice President and General Manager for Lubricants at Shell Pilipinas Corporation. “Through our partnership with TESDA, we are equipping them with the right training and tools to help them adapt to the ever-evolving auto industry.”

Brian Landicho, TESDA Competency Assessor for Small Engine Servicing NC2, added: “Seeing the passion and dedication of our mechanics is inspiring. Programs like the Mekaniko League promote the growth of the auto industry in the country, and TESDA fully supports initiatives that uplift and train Filipino talent.”

Beyond the competition, the Shell Mekaniko League underscores a bigger mission: to empower mechanics with hands-on training, world-class certification, and recognition that elevates their livelihoods. It also serves as Shell’s tribute to the thousands of mekanikos who recommend Shell Helix and Shell Advance to customers daily, trusting the products’ performance and protection on every journey.

With the 2025 edition setting a new benchmark, Shell is already gearing up for even bigger celebrations in the years ahead—continuing to honor the unsung heroes who keep the nation moving.
