2 areas still under Signal No. 3 as ‘Opong’ enters Mindoro Strait

Only the province of Occidental Mindoro and Calamian Islands in Palawan remain under tropical cyclone wind signal no. 3 as severe tropical storm ‘Opong’ moves to the Mindoro Strait on Friday afternoon.

Based on the 5:00 p.m. weather bulletin, ‘Opong’ was last estimated over the coastal waters of Santa Cruz, Occidental Mindoro. It was moving west northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour (kph) packing 110 kph of winds near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that ‘Opong’ may re-intensify into a typhoon within the next 12 hours as it moves over the West Philippine Sea. It is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday (September 27).

PAGASA has maintained tropical cyclone wind signal no. 2 over the following areas in Calabarzon: Cavite (Magallanes, Mendez, Ternate, Amadeo, Naic, Maragondon, Alfonso, Tagaytay City, Trece Martires City, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Indang, Silang), and Batangas;

Also under this wind signal are Marinduque, the western portion of Romblon (San Jose, Odiongan, San Andres, Calatrava, San Agustin, Alcantara, Santa Fe, Santa Maria, Concepcion, Looc, Ferrol, Banton, Corcuera), Cuyo Islands, and the extreme northern portion of mainland Palawan (El Nido, Taytay, Araceli) in Mimaropa, as well as Caluya Islands in Antique, which is part of Western Visayas.

Signal No. 1, meanwhile, remains in effect in other Luzon areas such as Pangasinan, the southern portion of Aurora (Dingalan, Baler, Maria Aurora, San Luis), Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Rizal, the rest of Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, the rest of Romblon, the northern portion of mainland Palawan (Dumaran, San Vicente, Roxas)

The situation is the same for Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, the northern portion of Negros Occidental (City of Talisay, Bacolod City, Bago City, Murcia, Valladolid, Pulupandan, La Carlota City, San Enrique, Pontevedra, City of Escalante, Cadiz City, Sagay City, Manapla, Victorias City, Enrique B. Magalona, Silay City, Hinigaran), and Bantayan Islands in Visayas.
