DA accredits Paraguayan meat exporters

Paraguay can export beef, pork and poultry to the Philippines over the next three years after the Department of Agriculture (DA) granted accreditation to the country’s meat establishments.

The accreditation, which takes effect on Aug. 11, 2025, and is valid until Aug. 11, 2028, was signed by Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.

The approval followed an inspection by the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) on Paraguay’s veterinary services, animal health status, and food safety controls.

The DA found Paraguay compliant with the standards of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and relevant Philippine standards. Fourteen foreign meat establishments audited were also deemed compliant with local quarantine and inspection requirements.

The order requires all exported meat to be derived from healthy animals, certified by Paraguay’s veterinary authority, and free from infectious diseases and harmful residues.

Accredited establishments should also comply with good manufacturing practices and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) standards and are subject to Philippine verification audits.
