DOST Region 1 wins top award, gears up for science week

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, LA UNION—The Department of Science and Technology in Region 1 (DOST Region 1) was recently honored with the Dayaw ti Agmanman SILNAG Award for its outstanding project implementation and support for gender-responsive development. The award was presented during the 3rd Quarter Regional Development Council-Region 1 (RDC-1) Meeting on September 10 at the Francisco I. Ortega Convention Center.

DOST Region 1 director Teresita A. Tabaog accepted the award and later presented the highlights of the upcoming 2025 National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW) Celebration. The event is scheduled for November 18–21 in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

Director Tabaog’s presentation outlined how the NSTW will showcase technologies and activities aligned with DOST’s four pillars of development: human well-being, wealth creation, wealth protection, and sustainability. The Council unanimously approved a resolution enjoining all regional agencies, local governments, and other stakeholders to support and participate in the celebration.

The motion was made by former DOST Region 1 director Armando Q. Ganal and seconded by the Council, demonstrating strong support for the agency’s mission to champion science and innovation for a more resilient and sustainable Region 1.
