PLDT Global Corp, the international arm of the PLDT Group, has teamed up with Japan-based Internet Exchange (IX) provider BBIX Inc. to introduce a new remote peering service in the Philippines, the companies said Wednesday.
The partnership will enable businesses in the Philippines to get seamless access to a large ecosystem of global content providers. The collaboration leverages BBIX’s carrier-neutral IX platform and PLDT’s network, allowing PLDT Global’s customers to access BBIX’s services without the need for a physical presence in key global markets.
“This partnership with BBIX marks another milestone in our commitment to strengthen the Philippines’ role as a digital hub in Asia,” said Albert Villa-Real, president and chief executive of PLDT Global.
“By leveraging BBIX’s carrier-neutral Internet Exchange, we are enabling businesses to connect faster, more reliably, and more securely to the global digital economy,” he said.
Roderick Santiago, first vice president and head of network strategy at PLDT and Smart, said the partnership underscored the PLDT Group’s continued investment in digital infrastructure.
The company’s vision is to make the Philippines a vital gateway for global digital traffic, he said.
BBIX president and chief executive Hideyuki Sasaki said he was confident the powerful network infrastructure of PLDT and the international presence of PLDT Global would bring value to BBIX’s platform.
“Together, we will meet the rising demand for high-speed, low-latency connectivity and help enterprises thrive in the rapidly evolving digital economy,” he said.
Headquartered in Japan, BBIX is one of the largest IX providers, with 50 points of presence across major data centers in Asia, North America and Europe.
