Palace vows to work with new House Speaker Dy

Malacañang on Wednesday expressed support for newly installed House Speaker Faustino ‘Bojie’ Dy III, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to work closely with lawmakers on measures that strengthen the economy and address public concerns.

“The President recognizes the vital role of the House of Representatives, especially at a time when the public demands visible results,” the Palace said in a statement.

“We now look forward to working with Speaker Faustino Dy III to advance measures that strengthen the economy, ensure basic services, and protect our democracy,” it added.

The Isabela lawmaker and longtime political ally of the Marcos family was elected Speaker following a leadership shake-up in the House that saw former Speaker Martin Romualdez, the President’s cousin, step down.

While acknowledging Romualdez’s contributions to the chamber, the Palace emphasized its respect for the independence of the House, noting that the administration’s priority is to ensure “constructive collaboration with all lawmakers” regardless of shifting political alignments.

“The administration remains focused on the needs of Filipino families and moving the nation forward,” the Palace said.

The leadership transition comes as Congress faces scrutiny over alleged irregularities and corruption in multibillion-peso “ghost” flood control projects.

The Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI) is currently looking into alleged anomalies in flood control projects, where Romualdez’s name has been mentioned, though not directly implicated.
