Bojie Dy succeeds Martin Romualdez as House Speaker

Voting 253-4-28 (yes-no-abstain), Isabela 6th District Rep. Faustino ‘Bojie’ Dy III was elected as new Speaker of the House of Representatives, replacing Leyte First District Rep. Martin Romualdez, who resigned from the post.

Quezon City Rep. Ralph Tulfo nominated Dy and was seconded by Isabela Rep. Tonypet Albano.

Negros Occidental Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez administered the oath of office to Dy, who was accompanied by his wife, Mary Ann Arcega-Dy.

In his speech, Dy said he did not expect to become Speaker. The 64-year-old politician belongs to an influential political clan in Isabela and is a partymate of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP).

He has been serving Isabela’s third district in the House of Representatives for three straight terms from 2001 to 2010.  He also served as Isabela governor from 2010 to 2019.

Dy first entered politics as mayor of Cauayan town from 1992 to 2001. He served as vice governor of Isabela from 2019 to 2025 before being elected again in the 20th Congress during the May 2025 polls after running unopposed.

Prior to his election as Speaker, he was one of the Deputy Speakers under Romualdez’s leadership.

His nephews Ian and Mike are also incumbent representatives of Isabela’s 3rd and 5th Districts, respectively. Dy’s son, Inno, is the incumbent mayor of Echague, Isabela.
