Malacañang on Wednesday said the Marcos administration will abide by the Supreme Court’s order stopping the implementation of the redistricting law in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), even as it acknowledged concerns over its impact on the upcoming regional elections.
“If that is the decision of the Supreme Court, that will be respected. Whatever the Supreme Court orders, the government will comply,” Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro told reporters.
The high court’s decision comes just weeks before the BARMM elections, which President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has repeatedly underscored as crucial to advancing the peace process in the region.
When asked if Malacañang was worried the ruling might disrupt preparations, Castro admitted there are concerns but maintained the administration’s commitment to the rule of law.
“Yes, there is concern, but the administration will still follow what the Supreme Court says,” she said.
The BARMM elections are scheduled to be held next month.
