Civil Defense on Blue Alert ahead of ‘Mirasol’

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has placed its operations on Blue Alert status in preparation for the possible impact of Tropical Depression ‘Mirasol,’ which is forecast to bring heavy rains and trigger flooding and landslides in parts of the country.

Civil Defense Administrator Undersecretary Harold Cabreros said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center will be on heightened monitoring and coordination.

Personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Philippine Coast Guard will also be on duty at the operations center.

The OCD said it has coordinated with national and regional agencies to prepare for scenarios such as widespread flooding, traffic disruptions, and other severe weather effects.

Relief goods and response assets have been prepositioned, while the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Response Cluster remains on standby.

Cabreros urged the public to take safety precautions seriously, stressing that preparedness is a shared responsibility.

“Government preparedness is in place—but individual responsibility remains crucial,” he said.

To boost public awareness, the OCD is also disseminating advisories through social media and other communication channels in coordination with regional and local authorities.

“Public awareness is essential for preparedness action. Our focus is also to ensure that critical advisories are delivered immediately and reach the affected and vulnerable communities. This is being carried out with the support of regional and local authorities,” Cabreros added.
