Seventeen member Woozi begins military service

Seventeen member and producer Woozi has begun his mandatory military service, becoming the third member of the K-pop group to enlist.

On Monday, Sept. 15, PLEDIS Entertainment confirmed that the 28-year-old K-pop idol entered an army camp to receive basic training before serving as an active-duty soldier.

On Sunday, Sept. 14, a day before his enlistment, Woozi attended Seventeen’s “NEW_” world tour stop at Incheon Asiad Main Stadium. Sporting a freshly cropped haircut, he watched from the crowd and cheered for his bandmates, alongside Hoshi, Jeonghan, and Wonwoo.

After the concert, he addressed supporters on the fan community platform Weverse.

“It was the first time I watched the members and Carat smiling at the music I made from offstage. I’m heading in with great strength. I’ll complete my service in good health,” he wrote.

Born Lee Ji-hoon, Woozi is the third member of Seventeen to enlist. Jeonghan began alternative service in September 2023, while Wonwoo enlisted in April this year. Hoshi is scheduled to enter the army on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

All able-bodied South Korean men are required to serve in the military, usually for 18 to 21 months, under the country’s conscription law.
