Novo Nordisk Philippines is teaming up with Watsons Philippines to offer free obesity screenings at select Watsons stores to tackle the country’s rising rates of obesity.
The initiative will initially be rolled out at 18 Watsons locations nationwide. Trained healthcare providers will be on-site to conduct assessments and provide advice. The partnership aims to promote early detection and management of obesity and related conditions like heart disease and diabetes.
According to the Food and Nutrition Research Institute, about 39 percent of Filipino adults, or four in 10 individuals aged 20 to 59, are living with obesity.
“Obesity can greatly affect a person’s quality of life, which is why we, in partnership with Watsons Philippines, are committed to raising public awareness,” said Novo Nordisk Philippines general manager Wei Sun.
“Through the screening initiative, we aim to make screening for obesity more accessible and help them take control of their well-being,” said Sun.
The collaboration is part of Novo Nordisk’s “Truth About Weight” campaign, which seeks to combat stigma and promote a science-based approach to obesity care. The company is also conducting training for healthcare professionals and a consumer education campaign to help Filipinos understand obesity as a chronic disease.
Joweeh Liao, Watsons Philippines director for health business unit said the partnership strengthens the company’s commitment to making preventive care more accessible.
“By offering free obesity screenings, we empower families with the knowledge and tools to take control of their health and live healthier lives,” Liao said.
“In Watsons we believe good health should be within reach for every Filipino,” she said.
Watsons has more than 1,200 stores across the Philippines, offering services such as extended hours, 24/7 locations and medicine delivery through its app.
