LTO suspends driver’s licenses of 5 ‘BGC Boys’ for 90 days

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the driver’ licenses of five individuals, dubbed the “BGC Boys,” for 90 days after they were found using fake licenses to enter a casino.

The men were identified as dismissed Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan First District Engineer Henry Alcantara, and assistant district engineers Brice Hernandez, Jaypee Mendoza, Edrick San Diego and Arjay Domasig.  Together, they were tagged as Bulacan Group of Contractors (BGC) Boys.

LTO assistant secretary Vigor Mendoza said they would also be summoned Friday, and their licenses may be revoked, preventing them from applying for a new one.

“The minimum is the perpetual revocation of their authentic license and perpetual disqualification—this is using a fake license,” Mendoza said.

Department of Transportation acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez earlier ordered the LTO not to tolerate any license forgery and punish those responsible for it.

Lopez instructed the LTO to continue working with the Philippine National Police-Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) to combat individuals selling fake identification cards, such as driver’s licenses.

This follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to encourage the public to use the eGov application for legitimate ID transactions.

Mendoza said the agency would not stop pursuing individuals behind the illegal production of driver’s licenses and other government-issued IDs.

“This is one of the positive events in the cybercrime division to suppress these fake licenses. We will just continue here,” Mendoza said at a press conference with Valenzuela Mayor Wes Gatchalian, PNP-ACG Director Bernard Yang, LTO and Philhealth.

The PNP-ACG presented during the press conference two suspects who were caught manufacturing fake IDs and licenses in Valenzuela.

Various IDs, a printer and other equipment for making fake IDs were seized from the two suspects.

The LTO also confirmed that they would study how to improve the security features of licenses to make them more difficult for counterfeiters to replicate.
