Alexandra Eala dazzled a big Brazilian crowd with her aggressive baseline game, and an easy 6-0, 6-2 subduing of multi-titled French netter Yasmine Mansouri on early Wednesday morning (Manila time) in the women’s singles action of the 2025 Sao Paulo Open Tennis Championships.
The crowd cheered on as the third seeded Eala needed just an hour to get past Mansouri, and continue her winning ways.
This comes three days since her title win after she outplayed Hungary’s Panna Udvardy, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, to claim her first ever women’s singles crown in the Guadalajara Open 125, and at a Women’s Tennis Association event.
“This is my first time in Brazil, and my first time in South America. I’m so happy to see the crowd so lively,” said the 20-year old Eala as she acknowledged the Brazilian audience giving them their support in her encounter with Mansouri.
The 5’9” Eala quickly raced to a 4-0 lead with her energetic baseline game in the first set.
And she took the third and fourth games after the 24-year old Mansouri a series of long exhanges.
Eala held serve in the third following a deuce, and broke the Frenchwoman in the fourth following four deuces.
She took a 3-0 lead in the set and gained the momentum from there, after unloading a service winner, a drop shot, and forcing Mansouri to errors on her long return shots.
“I’m lucky to be sandwiched between a great Brazilian audience. I’m happy to play well in front of them,” remarked Eala.
Eala scored 22 points of 32 first serves, while Mansouri chalked up 14 points on her 25 first serves.
Also advancing to the second round are second seed Argentinian Solana Sierra and Mexican Victoria Rodriguez.
Sierra fought off Indonesian Arianne Hartono, 7-6(4), 6-3, and Rodriguez ousted fourth seed Australian Ajla Tomjanovic, who retired, 6-4, 4-2.
