Senator Risa Hontiveros on Tuesday said she is hopeful the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee under Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson’s leadership will uncover more truth in corruption probes and deliver stronger accountability measures.
“The Senate’s processes will continue, but now under a new leadership, and my hope is that it will consolidate and further expand the good that was achieved under previous leaders, and then carry it forward even more,” she said in an interview.
Hontiveros, now part of the new Senate majority, cited Lacson’s background as a former national police chief and his reputation as a problem-solver and investigator.
She said his experience gives the committee a “distinct” advantage in pursuing evidence-based inquiries into alleged government anomalies.
According to Hontiveros, the committee can press resource persons to disclose more complete information and present solid proof, particularly in cases such as the controversial Discaya couple and other pending corruption issues.
She said she expects the panel to produce stronger recommendations that will guide legislation and reforms.
Hontiveros also expressed optimism that the new Senate leadership under Senate President Vicente Sotto III will consolidate past gains and expand accountability measures.
Meanwhile, the senator assured that her advocacies on social protection, transparency in the national budget, and anti-corruption will continue regardless of her bloc affiliation.
“Now that we are together in the new majority, it’s easier to work on common issues. And for me in particular, nothing has changed from then until now, I will continue working to strengthen the opposition,” Hontiveros said.
