Defense Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. led the commemoration of Korean War Veterans of the Philippines Memorial Day at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on Saturday.
He honored the sacrifices of Filipino soldiers who fought in the 1950–1953 conflict.
Speaking before veterans, soldiers, and dignitaries, Teodoro compared Cold War struggles with today’s shifting global order. “I cannot sugarcoat my words in front of men and women in uniform who stand ready to sacrifice their lives,” he said.
He warned against “non-democratic forces” that seek to undermine freedoms, adding that South Korea has stood as a reliable ally “through thick or thin.” “Filipinos and Koreans do not look for conflict. However, we shall also not bow down,” he added.
Teodoro reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening national defense, saying this is the best way to honor the legacy of Filipinos who gave their lives in the Korean War.
