The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will file criminal charges against former Bulacan 1st District Engineer Henry Alcantara after an internal investigation found him guilty of corruption, Secretary Vivencio Dizon said.
The decision aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to hold officials accountable for “botched projects that do not benefit the public,” Dizon said in a Facebook post.
Dizon said a Sept. 4 investigation found Alcantara guilty of four administrative charges: disloyalty to the Republic of the Philippines and the Filipino people, grave misconduct, gross neglect in the performance of duty and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.
“This is a warning to DPWH officials and staff responsible for ghost and substandard projects,” Dizon said.
“As the President said, we will not let the corrupt in government go unaccounted for,” he said.
Dizon said the agency would recommend to the “appropriate office” that criminal charges be filed against Alcantara and other individuals involved to achieve “justice for their embezzlement of public funds.”
Dizon previously identified others who would face administrative and criminal cases, including former assistant district engineer Brice Ericson Hernandez, construction section chief engineer Jaypee Mendoza and accountant Juanito Mendoza, all from the Bulacan 1st District Engineering Office.
