Wet markets are often associated with a strong odor because of fish, meat, vegetables, and fruits being sold in open stalls.
They are usually described as busy and cluttered places where various vendors gather to offer fresh products to the community. In the municipality of Tanza, however, the local government took a proactive step to address this concern by initiating a cleanliness drive in July 2025, after several years without a major cleanup.
The activity was joined by Road Marshals, LTO Deputized Officers, and other municipal officials who worked hand in hand to ensure its success. The drive aimed not only to maintain cleanliness but also to promote public health, improve sanitation, and create a more pleasant environment for both vendors and marketgoers.
This initiative reflects the commitment of the Tanza local government to fostering discipline, unity, and a cleaner community for its residents.
In addition, barangays in Tanza have also made it a practice to conduct their own cleanup drives. These community-led efforts are carried out to maintain cleanliness, reduce health risks, and encourage residents to take part in keeping their surroundings safe and orderly. Residents, youth volunteers, and organizations actively participate by sweeping streets, collecting garbage, and clearing clogged canals. Some barangays even hold information campaigns on proper waste segregation to strengthen awareness of environmental responsibility.
Furthermore, in today’s climate where communities are prone to flooding, these cleanups play a vital role in lessening its harmful effects by keeping drainage systems unclogged. They also help prevent health risks such as dengue, leptospirosis, and other waterborne diseases that thrive in dirty surroundings.
The cleanup initiatives in Tanza serve as more than just efforts to beautify the municipality.
They represent a united response to environmental, health, and safety concerns, while also fostering a culture of responsibility and cooperation among the people. With the continued support of both the local government and the community, Tanza sets an example of how collective action can lead to a cleaner, safer, and healthier future.
