Kickboxing national meet kicks off in Tagaytay

The 2025 Philippine National Kickboxing Championship, with a record number of participants, gets underway on Tuesday (Sept. 3) at the Tagaytay City Combat Center.

Due to the sport’s growing popularity, nearly 400 athletes from various affiliate clubs nationwide have registered for the week-long tournament organized by the Samahang Kickboxing ng Pilipinas (SKP).

Competitors will vie for top honors across different weight categories in both ring and mat events, including full contact, low kick, kick light, and point fighting.

This tournament serves as a crucial part of the selection process for the national training pool. National team members are also competing to prepare for upcoming international events, such as the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.

The event is supported by the City of Tagaytay, led by Mayor Brent Tolentino and Councilor Michael Tolentino, as well as the Philippine Olympic Committee, headed by President Bambol Tolentino.

Tournament management is being led by SKP Secretary General Wharton Chan and Deputy Secretary General Beh Baroty Hung.

To ensure fair and impartial judging, SKP National Technical Officials held a refresher course on WAKO Technical Rules. The course was led by International Technical Officials (ITOs) Bryan Olod (Chairperson – Mat Sports) and Noriel Acquisio (Ring Sports) and included national coaches and officials from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The course was held at the Character Hotel in Tagaytay City.
