Berde signs 8.4-MW Mindanao solar deal

Berde Renewables, a solar energy company and portfolio company of global infrastructure investor I Squared Capital, signed an 8.4-MWp solar power purchase agreement (PPA) with KCC Malls and Biotech Farms, two prominent businesses in Mindanao’s retail and agriculture sectors.

The agreement will provide clean, cost-effective energy to KCC Mall Gensan, KCC Mall Marbel, KCC Mall Zamboanga and the Biotech Farms agro-industrial facility in South Cotabato.

Under the zero-CAPEX deal, Berde Renewables will fully finance, build, and operate the solar systems. The projects are expected to generate approximately 13 million kWh of clean energy annually, resulting in estimated monthly energy savings of P5.8 million and offsetting 9,600 tons of CO₂ emissions each year.

The partnership demonstrates how industry leaders in energy-intensive sectors can advance sustainability. The agreement allows KCC Malls to integrate renewable energy into its operations to boost efficiency and resilience, while helping Biotech Farms secure reliable power and reduce its carbon footprint.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to making renewable energy a core part of KCC’s growth and modernization,” said Arvin Chan, chief executive of KCC Malls.

“By integrating clean energy into our operations, we are elevating our standards in retail sustainability while ensuring our malls remain resilient and efficient,” said Chan.

“At Biotech Farms, sustainability has always been central to our operations. Adding solar energy to our agro-industrial facility further strengthens our commitment to circular economy principles while ensuring stable, cost-efficient power for our business,” said Rainnyl Chiang, renewable energy director at Biotech Farms Inc.

Berde Renewables co-founder and president Patrick Zhu said the company has been building momentum in the country’s clean energy transition. “Today we are accelerating that shift to a new peak. This partnership shows how industries can work together to make renewable energy deliver real economic value and lasting impact for communities,” he said.

Berde Renewables has established 45.7 MW of solar projects in the Philippines, with 31 MW under construction and a 144-MW development pipeline. The company is also expanding into Thailand with a 300-MW project pipeline.
