13th PH EV Summit set for October 23-25

Through a pre-event press conference held last August 27 in BGC, Taguig, the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) officially announced the holding of the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS), a banner of the country’s continuously accelerating shift towards sustainable mobility. EVAP President Edmund Araga stated that he is confident EV adoption will continue to rise due to supportive government policies, volatile petrol prices, and a wider variety of models entering the market.

According to data compiled by the Department of Energy (DOE) and EVAP, the Philippines saw a significant surge in EV sales in 2024. Sales of four-wheeled EVs nearly tripled to 3,880 units, a 277.5 percent spike from the 1,028 units sold in 2023. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) led the charge, accounting for about 75 percent of those sales. The growth in two- and three-wheeled EVs was even more dramatic, with sales rocketing by over 25,000 percent to 43,441 units in 2024.

This sales momentum is being supported by a growing network of charging stations. The Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI) aims to deploy 7,300 charging stations nationwide by 2028, up from the current 992. The government is also implementing key policies to drive growth, including the new Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS), which the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) projects could generate up to ₱11.4 trillion in economic output and 680,000 local jobs. Additionally, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. inaugurated the country’s first lithium battery factory in Tarlac in September 2024, positioning the Philippines as a key player in clean energy storage.

The 13th PEVS, with the theme “Charge Ahead, Ignite the EVolution,” will be held from October 23 to 25 at the SMX Convention Center Manila. The three-day summit is poised to be a hub for insightful discussions, industry collaborations, and a grand showcase of the latest innovations and new EV models.
