Grab to launch new carpooling service in the Philippines this year

Singapore-based Grab will launch a new carpooling service in the Philippines by the end of 2025, according to Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon.

The move is part of a government initiative to improve transportation infrastructure and ease the burden on commuters, said Dizon.

Dizon, who recently visited Grab’s headquarters to discuss ways to provide more affordable and efficient transport, said the new service aims to carry more passengers and reduce the number of single-occupant vehicles on the road.

“President Marcos has stressed that we must move as many commuters as possible,” Dizon said in a statement.

“This system from Grab will be one of the many ways we can carry more passengers and discourage the use of single-passenger vehicles,” he said.

The carpool system will allow multiple passengers to be picked up from a single location and dropped off at different destinations, or to be picked up at different locations and dropped off at a similar destination.

The service will be piloted in the Philippines before the end of 2025, starting with key locations during peak hours.

“We would like to thank Grab for offering to provide Filipino commuters with multiple options and ensure they have a safe and comfortable daily commute,” Dizon said.

Grab Philippines managing director and head Ronald Roda said the company is a “committed partner” to the DOTr in providing efficient transportation solutions.
