Public affairs program “Cayetano in Action with Boy Abunda” (CIA with BA) won consecutive honors at the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Television, earning recognition at both the 37th and 38th editions of the annual event.
The 37th Star Awards, originally scheduled for 2023 but postponed because of the pandemic and other concerns, was held Aug. 24. The 38th edition had already taken place in March this year.
Despite the unusual timeline, “CIA with BA” was named Best Public Affairs Program in both ceremonies. Hosts Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, Sen. Pia Cayetano and Boy Abunda also received the Best Public Affairs Program Host award.
The program, which premiered in 2023 and is now on its 11th season, continues the legacy of the Cayetano siblings’ late father, Sen. Rene Cayetano, who hosted the legal advice program “Compañero y Compañera” in the 1990s and early 2000s.
In a Facebook Live after the awards, Sen. Alan Cayetano thanked viewers.
“We try to keep things entertaining, but more importantly, we make sure the show really helps people solve their problems. That’s what matters most,” he said.
Abunda, in his acceptance speech at the 37th awards, also expressed gratitude to the audience and reflected on the show’s impact.
“I realized that doing this show has made me a student for the rest of my life,” he said. “It’s the excitement about doing something uncertain, going into that space that you’re not sure of. That continues to excite all of us.”
“CIA with BA” airs every Sunday at 11:00 p.m. on GMA 7, with episodes also available on the network’s official YouTube channel.
