Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers intercepted a passenger attempting to leave the country using a fake Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The passenger, a man in his 30s, was flagged on August 15 at Terminal 3 before boarding a Cebu Pacific flight to Hong Kong. His documents were immediately marked suspicious during verification.
“He presented an OEC showing employment as an administrative officer in Hong Kong, but it turned out to be fake and issued to another person,” BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said.
The passenger was barred from boarding and is under investigation. Authorities suspect the document came from illegal online sellers preying on aspiring overseas workers.
Viado warned that using fraudulent papers violates immigration and labor laws and exposes travelers to human trafficking and exploitation risks. Vito Barcelo
