The Department of Transportation (DOTr), through the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), has instructed airlines to provide passengers with timely and accurate updates on their flight status.
The directive follows a presidential order to ensure a convenient and hassle-free travel experience for Filipinos.
According to the DOTr, delayed announcements about flight changes, delays or cancellations cause significant inconvenience and can disrupt passengers’ plans and lead to extra expenses for meals or lodging.
Under the Air Passenger Bill of Rights (APBR), specifically Sections 8 to 11, airlines are required to promptly inform passengers of any flight changes, delays or cancellations.
They should also extend all possible assistance to affected travelers, including the option of immediate refunds.
The DOTr said airlines should uphold the “full value of service” purchased by passengers and ensure their safety, convenience, and welfare at all times.
Data from the CAB showed that domestic passenger traffic reached 32.1 million last year, while international passenger numbers totaled 27.7 million.
