The Philippines and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday celebrated their 51st anniversary of diplomatic relations.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro and UAE Ambassador in Manila Mohamed Alqattam Alzaabi reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing bilateral relations.
“Over the past three years, both nations have signed approximately 22 agreements focusing on culture, energy transition, legal cooperation, government modernization, and security,” His Excellency Alqattam said in a statement.
“The UAE is home to more than one million Filipinos, whose contributions enrich every sector of society. The UAE remains committed to safeguarding welfare and strengthening the bonds between the two nations,” he added.
The ambassador highlighted that the upcoming signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Program (CEPA) will further boost trade and investment in both countries.
Recent initiatives include the UAE’s commitment of $20 million for the rehabilitation of the Pasig River and a $15-billion agreement between Masdar and the Philippines to develop renewable energy projects.
