‘Huaning’ exits the Philippines, heads to Japan—PAGASA

Tropical depression ‘Huaning’ officially left the Philippine area of responsibility on Tuesday as it slightly accelerated on its way to Ryukyu Islands in Japan, the state weather bureau reported.

As of 11:00 a.m., August 19, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said ‘Huaning’ was last estimated at 880 kilometers northeast of extreme northern Luzon, moving at 45 km per hour.

It is forecast to make a landfall in the Japanese island chain and will likely remain as a tropical depression.

PAGASA, meanwhile, noted it is monitoring a new low pressure area located east of the Philippines. Forecasters said this weather disturbance has a ‘medium’ chance of developing into a cyclone within the next 24 hours.
