The defense team of Vice President Sara Duterte has formally submitted their opposition to the motions for reconsideration filed before the Supreme Court (SC) concerning its ruling on the Articles of Impeachment leveled against her.
In a message to reporters Tuesday, lawyer and spokesperson Michael Poa said the Office of the Vice President (OVP) already lodged its comment on those seeking the reversal of the SC ruling, particularly the House of Representatives, on Monday (August 18). He declined to provide further details.
“We confirm that we have formally filed our Comment/Opposition to the Motion for Reconsideration filed by the House of Representatives before the Honorable Supreme Court,” Poa said.
“In deference to the sub judice rule and out of respect for the judicial process, we will not be granting media interviews or issuing further statements at this time,” he added.
The SC ruled in favor of the vice president, essentially nullifying the impeachment case of the House prosecution team against her. She is facing allegations of corruption, betrayal of public trust, and misconduct, among other serious charges.
The House as well as other concerned organizations have since filed separate motions, urging the High Tribunal to re-examine their decision and let the trial proceed in the Senate, which has archived the matter pending further arguments raised in the judiciary.
