FILIPINA tennis star Alexandra returns to action in the second week of September when she goes to Brazil for the 2025 Sao Paolo Open Tennis Championships.
The 20-year-old Eala was recently sidelined by a bothersome shoulder injury that kept her out of the Cincinnati Open Tennis Tournament.
The Brazilian city last hosted a WTA event in 2000, when it was still a tier IV clay-court event called the Brasil Open.
This tournament, now called the SP Open, is a WTA 250 and will be played on hard courts, will help Eala in her comeback bid, and in her preparation for the coming US Open.
Eala, whose Women’s Tennis Association rankings, has dropped three notches down to no. 68, is with world no. 21 Beatriz Haddad Maia, who leads the 32-player singles’ field and will be joined by another top player, American Hailey Baptiste, who is at no. 51.
The last time the Sao Paolo Open was held 25 years ago, Hungarian Rita Kuti Kis defeated Argentinian Paola Suarez in the final.
Eala will be one of the players to watch after shocked the tennis world when she advanced to the semifinals in Miami earlier this year.
Mexico’s Renata Zarazua and Argentina’s Solana Sierra are among the dangerous player in the mix.
The SP Open will kick off on September 8 and conclude on the 14th and will be held at the same as the Guadalajara Open.
