DICT, NCSC launch digital national ID for seniors

The DICT and NCSC have rolled out a new digital national ID for senior citizens, integrated into the eGovPH app. The initiative aims to streamline access to benefits and services for millions of elderly Filipinos.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) have launched a new digital national ID for senior citizens.

The ID is integrated into the eGovPH app, a government-wide digital platform, and is expected to benefit the Philippines’ more than 12 million elderly.

The new system simplifies how seniors access benefits such as discounts, health care and transportation and aims to eliminate the need for seniors to visit multiple offices and fill out paperwork.

For those already registered with the national ID system, the digital senior citizen ID will automatically appear in the eGovPH app once they turn 60.

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said the digital ID is a major step toward modernizing government services and ensuring that seniors are included in the country’s digital transformation.

He said the new system will make it easier, safer, and more dignified for seniors to access government services while reducing the risk of fraud and duplicate records.

The launch was held at The Manila Hotel and was led by NCSC chairperson Mary Jean Loreche and Aguda, along with other government officials.
