A local government mayor in Oriental Mindoro will take legal action against recently banned GenSan Warriors’ player Michole ‘Mike’ Solera.
Pola Mayor Jennifer M. Cruz, who is also the Team Owner of the Mindoro Tamaraws’ Team in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, said this after the league penalized Solera with a lifetime ban and a P200,000 fine.
Solera a player of the Gensan Warriors was sanctioned after he punched and hurt Jonas Tibayan of the Mindoro Tamaraws during their game in Batangas.
The incident sent the 6’3” Tibayan to the hospital, with a concussion, broken jaw, a busted lip and a fractured shoulder.
Tibayan was stretchered out and brought to a local hospital, before he was eventually transferred to the New Era Hospital in Manila for further examination.
“We strongly condemn the unsportsmanlike conduct of Michole Sorela of the GenSan Warriors against our player, Jonas Tibayan, during the recent MPBL game. Sorela’s on-court behavior was both shocking and unacceptable — a brutal act that has no place in the world of sports,” said Cruz in a post on Facebook.
Cruz said they await the decision of the Games and Amusements Board, if he will be stripped of his professional license to play.
“In addition, we are pursuing legal action to ensure accountability,” added Cruz.
If the GAB takes action, Solera’s professional license could be revoked and the player may also also get a lifetime ban.
