Wells Fargo Philippines has launched its first fleet of electric buses, expanding its employee shuttle service with low-emission transport options.
The new electric vehicles are being phased into the company’s shared shuttle program in its Philippine offices, which provides a safe, reliable and free shuttle service for employees. The addition of the buses increases seat capacity and offers an alternative to traditional fuel-powered vehicles while maintaining the same level of safety and convenience.
“Our free shuttle service has been one of our most appreciated employee programs, part of efforts in sustainability but also to creating a great place to work,” said Mike Whyte, country head of Wells Fargo Philippines.
“By introducing electric buses, we are enhancing our employees’ well-being through better mobility options while continuing to operate responsibly within our communities,” said Whyte.
Wells Fargo Philippines selected Global Electric Transport (GET) as its partner after a bidding process. The company said it chose GET for its advanced electric vehicle technology, reliable charging network, and local service support.
“With this fleet, Wells Fargo is helping advance sustainable employee mobility in the Philippines,” said Freddie Tinga, president of GET Philippines.
“We are proud to work with a company that puts employee experience and smart transport solutions at the forefront,” said Tinga.
The electric buses, which seat up to 25 passengers, are equipped with air conditioning, accessibility features, GPS tracking and fast-charging capability. They can charge from 20 percent to 90 percent in 45 minutes. The buses will be integrated into the Wells Fargo Philippines’ MoveInSync app, allowing employees to book and track rides.
The fleet will use GET’s network of fast chargers located across Metro Manila, with dedicated charging stations also being installed at Wells Fargo Philippines’ offices.
The rollout included 10 electric vehicles in May, with another 10 expected in August. Routes were selected based on terminal availability and efficiency, and the program supports Wells Fargo’s enterprise-wide operational sustainability goals.
The initiative comes as Metro Manila commuters continue to face challenges related to air quality and traffic congestion.
According to a 2023 report from the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air, air pollution in the Philippines leads to 66,000 premature deaths a year and costs over $1 billion in healthcare.
GET’s electric buses were developed in partnership with global electric vehicle technology companies including QEV Technologies of Spain and EV Dynamics. They are manufactured with support from Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc., a subsidiary of Ayala Corp.
