Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon said Wednesday 300,000 new Beep cards will be released at train stations next week to end the ongoing shortage.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered that the card shortage, which caused delays for passengers on the MRT-3, LRT-1 and LRT-2 lines, be resolved immediately.
“By next week, we will no longer have a shortage of Beep Cards. Beep Card will be completing a delivery of 300,000 additional cards across MRT-3, LRT-1 and LRT-2. That is what we have computed the shortage,” Dizon said.
Dizon also warned against syndicates that are allegedly hoarding the cards and selling them for P300 apiece.
“There are syndicates that are buying at the stations. We are coordinating with the PNP and SAICT. We will monitor every station to catch these crooks. We will catch them and put them in jail,” Dizon said.
He said the Department of Transportation (DOTr) would also talk to online selling platforms to shut down groups that sell Beep Cards online.
