President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the removal of forms for students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) seeking fare discounts on the MRT-3, LRT-1 and LRT-2.
Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the change, effective immediately, is meant to eliminate time-wasting and hassle for passengers.
“I observed a student earlier who took less than 1 to 1 minute, 30 seconds just for the form. The time of the students and other passengers is wasted,” Dizon said.
The DOTr said it would work with the Commission on Audit (COA) to digitize the information-gathering process.
“The President is pushing for digitalization, and a simple requirement like this should change. COA Chairman Gamaliel Cordoba is progressive, so we know he will also promote it,” Dizon said.
