The Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (APECO) launched the third and fourth phases of a P290-million underground power distribution line (UPDL) to stabilize electricity supply and attract high-value industries.
The new projects are also expected to pave the way for future renewable energy initiatives from new tenants and will be supported by power deliveries from energy companies in coordination with the Department of Energy (DOE).
The groundbreaking ceremony was led by National Electrification Administration (NEA) administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda, who described the expansion as a “cornerstone” in transforming APECO into a “storm-resilient and future-ready ecozone.”
Almeda said the expanded electrical distribution system “signals the growing momentum of investments and opportunities within this region.”
APECO is also upgrading its road network to enhance logistics efficiency for various goods, leveraging its location along the Pacific coast to become a transshipment hub.
APECO is reviving its tourism assets, with plans to convert a long-abandoned facility into a hospitality property as part of the New APECO Villas project.
The initiative aligns with the agency’s commitment to legacy tenants who have agreed to the zone’s new strategic direction.
