Malacañang on Tuesday said it has yet to confirm whether any flood control projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have been suspended in connection with the Marcos administration’s ongoing audit of such initiatives.
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro told reporters she would check with Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan for an update.
“As of now, I have no copy if there are projects that have been suspended, stopped, or halted. I will find out later and speak with Secretary Bonoan about it,” Castro said in a Palace briefing.
She also said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has not set a formal deadline for the completion of the audit being conducted by the DPWH in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
“The sooner, the better. The President will not sleep on this matter; he wants it done quickly,” Castro said.
The audit was ordered after Mr. Marcos, in his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 28, disclosed initial findings showing that about 20 percent of flood control contracts, worth nearly P100 billion and awarded from July 2022 to May 2025, went to just 15 contractors.
