The Department of Tourism (DOT) has invited Indian film executives to consider the country as a filming destination as part of its efforts to promote its diverse locations and incentives.
DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco met with film executives from Bollylands.com and the National Film Development Corp. of India. Frasco promoted the Philippines as an ideal backdrop for Bollywood films, showcasing its scenic landscapes and a variety of fiscal and non-fiscal incentives.
Frasco said several major international films and series have been shot in the Philippines, including “The Bourne Legacy,” “Almost Paradise” and “Somebody Feed Phil.”
The Philippines offers filmmakers competitive fiscal incentives through the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), such as a seven-year income tax holiday and duty-free importation of film equipment. Foreign production companies can access these benefits by partnering with local entities, the said.
Frasco said the DOT’s new Film Tourism Office and its regional branches provide direct support with location scouting and logistical assistance, helping filmmakers access diverse landscapes and historical sites.
As one of the largest English-speaking nations, the Philippines also facilitates smooth collaboration with international film crews, she said.
The meeting follows the recent elevation of ties between the Philippines and India to a strategic partnership, which includes improved air connectivity and visa-free travel.
