The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) continues to monitor tropical depression ‘Fabian,’ which continues to move west-northwestward as it prepares to leave the country on Friday afternoon.
In a bulletin issued at 5:00 p.m. on August 8, PAGASA noted that the cyclone—which entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) earlier this morning—is “unlikely to directly affect” weather conditions in the country.
“’Fabian’ is forecast to weaken into a remnant low as it exits the PAR,” the state weather bureau said.
The tropical depression was last monitored at 245 km West of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, moving northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gusts of up to 55 kph.
There were no tropical cyclone wind signals hoisted related to this weather disturbance.
Meanwhile, in a separate advisory, PAGASA warned that tropical storm ‘Podul’ continues to gather strength even as it remains outside the Philippine jurisdiction.
Forecasters tracked the storm at 2,435 kilometers east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon, packing 75 kph of winds with gusts of up to 90 kph.
“’Podul’ is forecast to move generally west northwestward tonight (August 8) through tomorrow (August 9), then westward from Sunday (August 10) through Tuesday next week (August 12),” PAGASA said.
The state weather bureau noted that this new weather disturbance may enter the PAR by late Sunday or early Monday morning (August 11) and may gradually intensify. The public is, therefore, advised to stay updated regarding weather conditions.
