Officials from Cambodia and Thailand began talks in Malaysia on Monday to resolve a border dispute as part of the ceasefire deal brokered by Malaysia last week.
The talks are set to go on until Wednesday and are slated to set the agenda and framework for a meeting on Thursday between the defense ministers of the two countries.
Representatives from the United States and China are expected to join as observers in that meeting, according to Malaysian Defense Minister Khaled Nordin.
The ongoing talks were one of the terms agreed when the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand met in Malaysia last Monday and signed a truce. The conflict has killed more than 30 people and seen hundreds of thousands displaced from their homes since May.
In a statement issued Saturday, the Malaysia Armed Forces said it is facilitating the meeting as Malaysia, which is the current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, is seen as a neutral venue.
