The Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) announced it will soon require all its personnel—not just elite units—to undergo special operations training in a bid to modernize and strengthen the force.
The program will gradually roll out advanced training across the PMC, covering tactics and techniques once exclusive to elite forces such as the Force Reconnaissance Regiment.
These include small unit tactics, amphibious operations, covert reconnaissance, and participation in joint and interagency missions.
“Our Marines have always been known for their toughness and adaptability. But we can no longer afford to keep advanced combat skills limited to a few,” PMC Commandant Major General Vicente MAP Blanco III said.
“Every Marine must be ready—not just for conventional warfare, but for the kind of missions that require speed, precision, and a different level of training demanded by our current and future operating environment,” he added.
The Commandant emphasized that the initiative aims to enhance overall capability without compromising readiness or morale.
“We recognize the scale of what we’re undertaking… We’ll proceed step by step, ensuring our Marines are supported throughout their development,” Blanco said.
“It’s time to level up… The Filipino people deserve a Marine Corps that is ready for any mission, anywhere, anytime,” he added.
The initiative marks a significant shift in the PMC’s operational approach, aiming to ensure that every Marine acquires advanced combat skills and specialized capabilities suited to the evolving security landscape.
The move aligns with the PMC’s broader transformation roadmap and its role in supporting the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept.
