Avon entrepreneurs in Cebu City are embracing online selling, moving beyond their traditional print catalogs, thanks to the #eBizNovation program by PLDT Inc. and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc.
The initiative, in partnership with Avon Philippines, aims to equip direct sellers with essential digital skills and boost their online presence.
For years, Avon representatives across the country have relied on their iconic print catalogs. Now, over 30 Avon sales leaders in Cebu have transitioned to online selling, a move supported by PLDT and Smart’s ongoing commitment to help entrepreneurs nationwide enhance their digital footprint and drive business growth.
“Our #eBizNovation program provides microentrepreneurs like Avon resellers with the essential digital skills to thrive in today’s economy,” Stephanie Orlino, assistant vice president and head of stakeholder engagement at PLDT and Smart said in a statement.
“When we help them go digital, we contribute to the overall growth and development of our nation,” she said.
The Cebu session focused on practical digital marketing strategies, teaching participants to create visually appealing content. Sales leaders learned techniques in social media content creation, smartphone photography and videography.
Beyond marketing, the program emphasized digital safety through PLDT and Smart’s #BeCyberSmart initiative. Participants received comprehensive training on protecting themselves and their businesses against online scams, phishing attempts and other cyber threats commonly targeting small-scale entrepreneurs.
The cybersecurity component underscores the companies’ commitment to safe and sustainable digital transformation.
Amy Ponce, 57, an Avon representative for 16 years from Barangay Sambag 2, expressed her gratitude for the training.
“I gained helpful insights from this training as I continue learning how to promote Avon products online. Thanks to PLDT, Smart, and Avon for encouraging us, especially the more senior dealers, to go digital,” Ponce said.
Cebu’s inclusion in the program underscores its significance as a major economic hub and its vibrant business ecosystem, making it an ideal location for initiatives aimed at digitally empowering micro and small enterprises.
The #eBizNovation program is part of PLDT and Smart’s broader efforts to democratize access to digital technology and skills across the Philippines.
The initiative directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by empowering micro-entrepreneurs with the skills needed to expand their businesses and contribute to inclusive economic development.
