The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on Thursday raised concern over alleged maltreatment and abuse of detained journalists Frenchie Mae Cumpio and Marielle Domequil at the Tacloban City Jail female dormitory in Leyte.
Citing reports, the CHR said Cumpio and Domequil have experienced serious delays in obtaining medical attention, processing of consent forms for trial monitoring, and approval of visits from media and diplomatic representatives.

The matter has been referred to the CHR’s Region 8 office for investigation.
In line with its mandate to investigate alleged human rights violations in places of deprivation of liberty, the CHR has coordinated with the concerned city jail and its wardens to address the complaints.
