Calvin Oftana will still join the Gilas Pilipinas national men’s basketball team in its trip to the FIBA Asia Cup 2025.
Still recovering from ankle sprain injuries, the 6’5” Oftana boarded the plane with the the rest of the national team to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday evening.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas confirmed his inclusion on social media via group photos of the team before they boarded their plane.
Oftana earlier missed suiting up for Gilas in their send-off game against the Macau Black Bears on Monday. But he got the needed medical clearance to join the squad.
He joins Barangay Ginebra’s Justin Brownlee, Scottie Thompson, Jamie Malonzo, and Japeth Aguilar; Meralco’s Chris Newsome; and San Miguel’s June Mar Fajardo and CJ Perez in the trip.
Also going are Dwight Ramos (Levanga Hokkaido), AJ Edu (Gunma Crane Thunders), Carl Tamayo (Changwon LG Sakers), and Kevin Quiambao (Goyang Sono Skygunners). Ginebra’s RJ Abarrientos and Troy Rosario were also listed.
Gilas Pilipinas starts its FIBA Asia Cup bid against Chinese Taipei on August 6, before taking on New Zealand on August 7 and Iraq on August 9.
