Marcos, Modi to meet in India next week—Malacañang

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will travel to India for a five-day state visit from Aug. 4 to 8, 2025, at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Malacañang announced on Thursday.

The visit, which coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and India, will include official meetings and events in New Delhi, followed by engagements in Bangalore.

President Marcos is expected to hold talks with top Indian officials and meet with business leaders in both cities to boost bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

While in New Delhi, the President will also meet with members of the Filipino community.

This will be the first state visit to India by a Philippine president since Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s trip in October 2007.

In return, former Indian President Ram Nath Kovind visited the Philippines in October 2019.

India and the Philippines have enjoyed growing strategic relations in recent years, underscored by the 2022 signing of a $375 million BrahMos missile deal, the Philippines’ first major defense purchase from India.

The agreement is part of both countries’ broader goal of enhancing maritime deterrence in the face of rising tensions in the South China Sea.

According to Malacañang, the upcoming trip aims to reaffirm longstanding ties between the two nations and explore new areas of collaboration amid evolving regional and global dynamics.
