Domingo Lee, FFCCCII pillar, passes away at age 90

The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) mourns the passing of its honorary president, Ambassador Domingo Lee on July 26 at the age of 90.

Lee was a prominent industrialist, seasoned diplomat and generous philanthropist whose lifelong service helped shape the Filipino-Chinese community and Philippine society at large.

Born on Nov. 15, 1934, Lee served as president of FFCCCII from 1987 to 1991, guiding the federation with strong leadership, integrity, and an unwavering dedication to unity and progress.

His service and influence extended far beyond his term, ultimately earning him the esteemed position of honorary president.

In the public sector, he was appointed Ambassador at Large for the Asia-Pacific Region under President Corazon Aquino from 1986 to 1987.

He also played a key role in several state visits, leading economic and goodwill missions that helped bolster Philippine ties with Asian neighbors and global partners. Julie Ann Lope

Lee’s impact on the business landscape was significant. He served as Chairman and CEO of the Philippine Banking Corporation (1987–1992) and held a directorial position at San Miguel Corporation, contributing to the country’s economic development.

A man of deep compassion, Lee was a committed philanthropist.

He served in leadership roles in several charitable organizations, including as vice-chairman of the HERO Foundation, adviser to the Metrobank Foundation and vice-chairman of the Lorenzo Ruiz Foundation for the Filipino Chinese Community.

His philanthropic work focused on education, culture, and humanitarian aid, reflecting both Filipino values of bayanihan and traditional Chinese virtues.

Among the many honors he received was the Outstanding Alumni Award from St. Stephen High School, which highlighted his lifelong commitment to excellence and service. Despite his accolades, colleagues remember Lee for his humility, approachability, and devotion to his family — his wife, Evelyn Lim Lee, and children Rexford, Davy, Rosemarie, and Redmond.

“Today, as we remember Ambassador Domingo Lee, we recall not just his titles and accolades, but his profound kindness, his charities, and his unwavering belief in the potential of the Philippines and its people. His legacy lives on in the public schools built by the FFCCCII, the communities uplifted, the businesses nurtured, and the diplomatic bridges he fortified.” the group said.

“The FFCCCII extends our deepest condolences to the Lee family. We have lost a guiding light, but his spirit of service, leadership, and generous philanthropy will forever inspire our Federation’s mission.” it said.

Ambassador Lee leaves behind a legacy of bridges built — between cultures, communities, and countries. He will be remembered not only for his titles, but for the lives he uplifted, the causes he championed and the unity he fostered, the FFCCCII said.
