The number of fatalities from the combined effects of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong has risen to 34, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Tuesday.
Of the total, two deaths have been confirmed, while 32 are still under validation.
The NDRRMC also reported 18 injuries — 11 validated and seven pending confirmation — and seven individuals missing, with three cases confirmed and four still for verification.
The weather disturbances triggered 30 landslides and flooding in 526 areas across the country.
According to the NDRRMC’s 8 a.m. situational report, around 1.86 million families, or 6.67 million people, were affected by the storms. Of these, 33,694 families (113,646 individuals) sought refuge in evacuation centers, while another 21,299 families (80,496 individuals) took shelter elsewhere.
Damage to infrastructure was significant, with 586 road sections and 35 bridges affected.
The NDRRMC also reported 15,220 houses damaged across 16 regions, including Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Agricultural losses were estimated at ₱1.68 billion, affecting 50,772 farmers and fisherfolk. Meanwhile, infrastructure damage reached ₱7.36 billion, mostly reported in Regions 1, 2, CAR, 3, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Region 5, Region 6, Negros Island Region, and Region 10.
A total of 193 cities and municipalities have declared a state of calamity.
Due to persistent bad weather, several local government units suspended classes on Tuesday.
